Apparently there’s been a lot of acclaim for the newly rebooted Tomb Raider game at this year’s E3, showing a more mature (read: less boob-centered) direction for the series through an origin story with a younger, survivalist Lara Croft.

Except, well, this looks at least a little familiar…

Now I’m not saying this is a bad thing. Instead, I think Lara Croft emulating Katniss Evergreen is actually pretty cool in a progressive, stronger female character kind of way. Unless, of course, the game just has Lara Croft shrieking the entire way through it, like she does throughout what I swear is a five minute cutscene in some game demo footage I saw shown at E3. Worst case scenario, it could be a decent holdover until they make that inevitable Hunger Games video game.

Shit.
Tomb Raider was announced at last year’s E3. Odds are it was in production before the Hunger Games movie version was even announced.
Although then, if the similarities are a coincidence, that is pretty cool, and speaks to a lot more progressive work going on in entertainment as a whole.

I assumed it was in production for quite some time and that the similarities were just a coincidence, but I still wanted to point out that it’s a pretty funny/awesome/and even progressive coincidence.
